Reed City Reclaims Regional Title, Ending Bullock Creek’s Best Season Since 2005

REED CITY, Mich. - The Reed City Coyotes (9-3) scored two touchdowns and forced two turnovers in the second half to beat the Bullock Creek Lancers (8-4) 28-14 and advance to the semifinal round in Division 6 for the second straight season.

At halftime, the score was knotted up at 14-14. Reed City started the third quarter strong. A Max Hammond 31-yard rush put it in Bullock Creek territory. A 23-yard play-action pass from Landen Jackson to Spencer Hansen put the Coyotes up 21-14.

The Lancers drive in response got them into the red zone. The key play was a 31-yard pickup on the ground from senior Bo Schwartz on a 2nd and 22. But the Coyotes defense stood tall in the red zone, forcing a turnover on downs at the five-yard line.

Reed City’s next drive in the early stages of the fourth quarter stalled out after seven plays. The punt saw a mishap on the return for Bullock Creek, a deflection off a Lancer gave the Coyotes the ball back after recovering it at Bullock Creek's 28 yard-line.

Max Hammond had three rushes for 26 yards on the possession, powering it in from four yards out to make it a two-possession game.

A Jack Deitsch interception sealed it, late in the fourth quarter.

In the first half, Bullock Creek scored on their first two drives. The opening possession took half of the first quarter and saw eight Bo Schwartz carries. A one-yard rushing touchdown opened the scoring.

A 13-play, 85-yard drive delivered the second Bo Schwartz and Lancers touchdown to make it 14-7. Reed City’s first-half points came from their first drive, a Max Hammond two-yard receiving score.

The Coyotes next two drives didn’t result in points. But after a defensive stop, Reed City got the ball back with 61 seconds in the first half and needed just two plays, a 60-yard play, a Landen Jackson to Jack Deitsch connection tied the game.

The Coyotes, for the second straight season, have advanced to the semifinal round. The Lancers a week ago won their first district title since 2005.
