Scholar Athlete of the Month

Sports Radio 100.9 The Mitt's Scholar-Athlete of the Month is presented by Fisher Companies and gets awarded to one local high school student each month, based on their academic and athletic achievements. Each winner earns $500 towards their post-high school endeavors.

​

Winners can add this honor to college applications and will be interviewed with a highlight played on Sports Radio 100.9 The Mitt. Full interviews with each recipient can be found below.

Scholar Athletes of the Month 2024-25

Craig Hurst - Midland

​

Craig Hurst is a football player at Midland High School.  In the classroom, Craig maintains a 4.49 GPA, is a member of the National Honor Society and captain of the Robotics team. This past summer, Craig earned a full scholarship to Michigan Tech's engineering scholars summer program.

Scholar Athletes of the Month 2023-24

Emma Tinson - Breckenridge

​

Emma Tinson is a multi-sport athlete at Breckenridge High School. She has earned all-conference honors in volleyball and softball. In the classroom, Emma maintains a 3.95 GPA, is a member of the National Honor Society and a Huskie Pack Mentor.

Emmah Hanson - Bullock Creek

​

Emmah Hanson is a softball player who earned all-region honors at Bullock Creek High School. A four-year member of the team, Emmah played the outfield for the Lancers. In the classroom, Emmah achieved a 4.0 GPA while taking Welding classes at the GMCA. She will major in business at Mid Michigan College and continue her athletic and academic career.

Jacob Jensen - Dow

​

Jacob Jensen is a three-sport athlete, competing in football, basketball and track at H.H. Dow High School. Jacob was the team captain and starting quarterback for the Chargers who reached the district final. He was named the defensive player of the year in basketball and was all-SVL in track. In the classroom, Jacob boasts a 4.56 GPA, is a member of the National Honor Society and volunteers as a coach with MAYFL football. He will continue his academic career at the University of Michigan.

Kinsie Jacques - Pinconning

​

Kinsie Jacques is a two-sport athlete, competing in cross country and track at Pinconning High School. She holds her school's record in the mile, two-mile and 5K. In the classroom, Kinsie boasts a 3.89 GPA, volunteers her time and is a part of the Health Tech program at the Bay Arenac Career Center. She will continue her will athletic and academic career at Saginaw Valley State University.

Noah Graham - Freeland

​

Noah Graham is a three-sport athlete, competing in soccer, wrestling, and golf at Freeland High School. He recently finished third place at the MHSAA Wrestling State Championships in the 157-pound class. In the classroom, Noah boasts a 3.98 GPA, volunteers at the Saginaw Soup Kitchen and while still in school works at a nursing home. He will study and wrestle at Southeastern University.

Garett Forgash - John Glenn â€‹

​

Garett Forgash is a three-sport athlete, competing in football, wrestling, and golf at John Glenn High School. He earned all-region honors in football and golf and finished sixth in his weight class in states on the mat.  In the classroom, Garett boasts a 3.99 GPA, is a four-year member of the student senate, and is on the board for Just for Kids, where he volunteers his time.  In the fall, Garett will attend Saginaw Valley State University.

Emma Weitzel - Bay City Western​

​

Emma Weitzel is a three-sport athlete, competing in soccer, basketball, and golf at Bay City Western. Emma earned First-Team All-Conference and Honorable Mention All-SVL in Golf. Emma is a member of the National Honor Society and dual enrolled at Delta College. Furthermore, she volunteers as a part of a church youth group and plans to be a doctor. In the fall, Emma will attend Saginaw Valley State University.

Paige Kloha - Freeland 

​

Paige Kloha is a three-sport athlete, competing in cross country, basketball, and soccer at Freeland High School. Paige is a top-five runner on the state qualifying cross country team, a starter for the basketball team, and all-conference in soccer. Both the basketball and soccer teams won the district last season. Paige is a member of the National Honor Society and dual enrolled in business classes at Delta College, amassing a 3.9 GPA. In the fall, Paige will attend Lansing Community College and intends to compete in cross country.

Nick Moody - Midland

​

Nick Moody is a two-sport athlete, a two-year starter on football and a captain on the hockey team, all while earning a 4.52 GPA at Midland High School. In the community, Nick volunteers his time with the Salvation Army and the Midland Amateur Hockey League. Nick will attend Northwood University and pursue business.Nick will attend Northwood University and pursue a business degree.

Gabriella Crumm - Unionville-Sebewaing

​

Gabriella Crumm is a three-sport athlete, competing in softball, basketball, and volleyball, all while earning a 3.92 GPA at Unionville-Sebewaing Area School. Gaby is scholar athlete from MIVCA and 2-time all state catcher for the USA softball. She will graduate with honors and continue her athletic softball career at Saginaw Valley while pursuing a degree to become an occupational therapist.

Antonio Jimenez - Merrill

​

Antonio is a three-sport athlete, lettering in football, basketball, and track, all while earning a 3.8 GPA at Merrill High School. He will attend Delta College in the fall of 2024 and plans to get an electrical degree. Antonio has played three years on the football team, two on basketball, and was an all-conference honoree in his first year on the track team as a junior. In the classroom, he is a member of the National Honor Society and is dual-enrolled at Delta College.
