Freeland, MI - The Freeland Falcons were victorious in both the girls varsity and boys varsity basketball matchup against the Frankenmuth Eagles.

The Falcons girls handed the Eagles their first regular-season conference loss since February 21, 2020, the last time Freeland bested Frankenmuth in non-postseason play.
A 55-51 Falcons win behind an inside presence that drew multiple Eagles players into foul trouble. Frankenmuth senior Claire Conzelmann would foul out before the final minute and four fouls limited the fourth quarter time for sophomore Grace Brenner and first-year Macy Donovan.
After an even first half, Freeland seniors Karie Keefer and Addie Seemann each posted six points in the third quarter to take a four-point lead into the fourth quarter. Sophomore Jozelynn Begick was a consistent contributor leading with 18, nine in each half.
Begick would hit two crucial free throws to make it 55-51 with 20 seconds left. Despite five shot attempts, Frankenmuth would not pull it to a one-possession game, with time running out.
The Freeland Boys would win their eighth consecutive game over Frankenmuth.
The Falcons came out of the gates hot, up 19-8 in the opening quarter behind four threes. Juniors Wilson Huckeby and Connor Lasceski each hit two triples. Frankenmuth senior Aiden Labissoniere kept the Eagles within striking distance with eight second-quarter points, making it a nine-point deficit at the halftime break.
Frankenmuth opened the third quarter on a 9-0 run, senior Ethan Edwards added six on the run and nine in the quarter. Freeland carried a two-point lead into the fourth quarter, with a Huckeby buzzer-beater grabbing the advantage.
The fourth quarter saw the Falcons pursue looks for Junior big man Tristan Comer. The 6'7 center totaled 10 in the second half.
The game went back and forth into the final minute. Frankenmuth junior Caden Sommerfield would finish strong, dribbling past Comer and laying it in to make it 56-55 with 47 seconds left.
The Eagles got a defensive stop, forcing a jump ball. Trying to break a full-court press, Frankenmuth turned it over. Wilson Huckeby would penetrate the baseline and score to put the Falcons up one.
With 22 seconds left, Frankenmuth was unable to get a clean look with Freeland taking the win.
Rounding Things Out
With the wins, the Freeland boys are 8-1 in TVC Red play just behind Bay City John Glenn who are 9-1. They face off on Tuesday. The Frankenmuth girls stay atop the TVC-Red at 10-1, with Freeland at 8-1. The Falcons have three conference games remaining, while the Eagles have one left.
