Flint, MI - The Carman-Ainsworth Cavaliers made defensive stops and hit their free throws in the waning moments to hold on for a 73-64 district championship win on their home floor against the Saginaw United Phoenix.

Saginaw United finishes the season with an 18-6 overall record and a regular-season championship in the SVL. Six seniors played their final high school game on Friday night.
United had a two-point lead after the first eight minutes, with senior guard Trey Buford scoring nine of his team's 16. Carman-Ainsworth would play +10 in the second quarter, 6'6 junior Kendreyas White totaled 12 in the first half and six in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, the teams traded transition buckets, with Phoenix junior Tyler Dorsey scoring nine, after just four in the first half. Saginaw United kept within striking distance down seven entering the fourth quarter.
Di'onquavis "Boop" Hardy who didn't play in the third quarter was the jolt needed. Hardy forced turnovers throughout the fourth. His layup cut it to a three-point deficit with 1:10 remaining. United would foul with 54.3 remaining putting Cavalier senior Fred Thomas IV to the line, he hit both free throws.
The next Phoenix possession saw Hardy a cross-court feed to Trey Buford whose corner three did not fall with 35 seconds.
Saginaw United would not come within one possession again, fouling Thomas IV who once again made his shots at the line. Thomas IV, in the final two minutes, would shoot 8-of-8 at the charity stripe.

Rounding Things Out
Saginaw United seniors totaled 37 of their 64 points. Trey Buford finished with 12 points, Deon Anderson Jr. and Torry Burt scored nine, and Torrion Stevenson Jr. had seven.
