Midland, Mich. - The Dow Chargers Girls Varsity team won their 11th straight game over Midland, while the Midland Chemics Boys Varsity squad beat Dow for the first time since March 9th, 2022.
In the girls' game, the Chemics (6-4) stayed in stride, with the Chargers (8-2) trailing 38-34 at the half, behind 10 points from sophomore Jensyn Ardouin. The Dow defense limited Ardouin to three and the Midland team to 18 in the second half.
The Chargers pulled away with the effort of three double-digit scorers; junior Dalton DeBoer led with 22, making six threes. Sophomore Melanie Kolnitys had 19, and first-year Allison Stockton scored 16.
In the boys' game, the Chemics (2-9) defense was forceful. Effective double teams limited Dow senior Ian Balch to eight points. Balch posted 35 in the December 20th game that the Chargers (4-7) won 71-47.
Midland shared the rock. Junior Liam Heinz led with 13, including two threes in a third quarter where the Chemics outscored their opponent 20-10. Sophomore Jacoby Lind totaled 11, and Junior Noah Wall tallied nine, going 7-for-13 from the free throw line.
Dow down 13 started the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run with junior Jake Szajenko responsible for six. Midland ended that run with a Bennett Smith corner three, to make it a 48-40 lead with four minutes to go. The sophomore Smith finished the night with 10.

Dow's girls' next game is on the road with Grand Blanc on Tuesday, January 23rd, at 7 p.m. The Midland girls host the Mount Pleasant Oilers on the same day and time.
