Saginaw Township, MI - The Heritage Hawks (11-2) stifling defensive play pushed them past the Dow Chargers (5-7) 40-29. Zariya McCrary posted 17 points, 10 in the first half.

The Hawks' first-year starters, McCrary, Jayla Laster, Josie Ode, and Brooklynn Isom, combined for 38 of the 40 Heritage points.
Implementing a full-court press, the Hawks scored the first eight points and started on an 11-2 run. Heritage took a ten-point lead into halftime. Dow junior Jana Mohr had seven of her team's 13 points at the half, hitting their lone three-pointer.
The Chargers got the deficit to single digits, a four-point difference within the first two minutes of the third quarter. Dow took advantage of four Hawks playing with two fouls or more. Heritage would then score the next six points, two layups from McCrary, and an inside finish for Laster.
As the second half progressed, Josie Ode's mid-range game came alive. She tallied 12 points, 8 in the second half. Set up by McCrary, an Ode jumper made it a 14-point advantage with 4:40 left in the contest. Dow would not get the deficit under double digits from there.
