PINCONNING, Mich. - Spartans junior running back Daniel Dubay scored two touchdowns and a two-point conversion en route to a Pinconning Spartans (3-1) (1-1) comeback 21-14 victory over the Sanford Meridian Mustangs (0-4) (0-2).
Pinconning in the first half was held off the board with Dubay gaining 41 yards, 35 on the first drive that stalled in the red zone.
Meridian had three offensive drives in the first half, scoring on their second. Sophomore running back Bridger Ouderkirk rushed for 71 yards overall in the half.
On a drive that went nine plays and 64 yards, Ouderkirk ran for 24 yards. The score came from senior Garrett Bergman, an eight-yard rushing touchdown. A two-point conversion was converted by sophomore Brady Bowen.
The Mustangs opening drive of the second half went seven plays for 50 yards. Ouderkirk had a 34-yard rush to bring the ball inside the five. He would have one touch for the remainder of the game. That drive was finished with sophomore Logan Holzinger's three-yard rushing scamper.
Pinconning would score the next 21 points. A 13-play, 60-yard drive was topped off with a 15-yard Dubay TD. The extra point was missed.
After forcing a three-and-out defensive stop, a 10-play 56-yard drive saw the final three rushes from senior Aiden Fork. He combined for 38 yards over the three carries, capping it with a 23-yard dash. Dubay checked back in, to tie the game at 14 with a successful two-point conversion with 5:54 remaining.
On Meridian's next drive, they fumbled the ball away on the second play. That set up a game-winning 11-play 35-yard drive. Dubay had 8 carries, punching it in from two yards out with 42.5 seconds to go. A fourth down conversion was successful on a Dubay rush during the drive. Dubay finished with 119 rushing yards.
Rounding Things Out
Pinconning's win was their first over Sanford Meridian since 2008.
