Dow Wins Seventh Straight District Title, Stockton and Kolnitys Combine for 41

Allison Stockton scored 21 points, seven at the free throw line. The 5'5 sophomore guard created second-chance opportunities rebounding well and distributing to her teammates. She left the game with an apparent leg injury with under three minutes to go but would reenter the game with 1:44 remaining.

The Chargers, who kept Midland at bay in a back-and-forth third quarter, increased their lead to 12 entering the fourth quarter. Stockton assisted an Avery Bailey layup just before the frame expired.

The first possession of the fourth was Stockton grabbing an offensive rebound and dishing it to senior Dalton DeBoer who hit a deep three. The 15-point lead was the largest of the contest.

In a physical game, Dow outlasted the Chemics with two Midland starters first-years Ella and Emma McLaughlin fouling out in the fourth quarter.

Both teams had fouls against on offensive possessions that ended with a charging or blocking foul. Midland tallied up more with four players with 2+ fouls at the halftime break, limiting starters minutes. Dow as a unit went 18-for-22 at the free throw line compared to the Chemics 4-for-5.

With under four to go and a double-digit deficit, Midland committed to a full-time full-court press. The dribbling skill of junior Melanie Kolnitys drew fouls from the Chemics as she went 6-for-7 at the line, four in the final two minutes. Kolnitys dropped 20 points.

Midland's three-point conversions tailed off as the game progressed. After hitting three as a team in the first eight minutes, they'd hit four the rest of the way.
