Midland, Mich. - In their first-ever matchup as Jack Pine conference foes and second all-time, the Gladwin Flying G's (5-2) (3-2) bested the Bullock Creek Lancers (3-4) (1-4) 28-18.
Gladwin senior Donald "Trace" Corlew III had two receiving touchdowns in the third quarter to make it a two-possession lead, that the Flying G's held through the fourth quarter.
Bullock Creek scored first with a Caden Tate interception getting the Lancers in Gladwin territory. After six rushes gained 22 yards, junior Alex Kikta connected with sophomore Lincoln Tetloff for a five-yard receiving TD.
Flying G's junior Preston Willers ran for 76 yards in the first half, with one of two scores for Gladwin who led 14-6 at halftime.
After forcing a turnover on downs, Bullock Creek junior Adley Keister ran three times for 57 yards, setting up junior Elijah Sovia's three-yard TD. A failed two-point conversion kept Gladwin up 14-12.
Corlew III exploded in the second half for two scores and five receptions for 83 yards. Overall the senior finished with over 100 all-purpose yards.
The Lancers had a drive from 1:53 in the third quarter to 6:41 in the fourth quarter. Four false starts stalled a drive that ended with a turnover on downs. Adley Keister ran in his second TD from three yards out to pull Bullock Creek within 10 with 1:41 to go. Gladwin's Harvey Grove knocked down a pass on the two-point try.
Rounding Things Out
Gladwin junior QB Colton Pfenninger had a rushing score, and Bullock Creek junior QB Alex Kikta threw a TD.
