Bay City, Mich. - The Bay City John Glenn Bobcats (4-1) (2-0) amassed 18 fourth-quarter points to pull past the Alma Panthers (3-2) (1-1) 59-54. The Bobcats last season finished with only three conference wins and now are one away from matching that mark.
Bay City John Glenn outscored Alma 12-7 in the final five minutes. With the score tied 46-46 with 4:57 in the fourth quarter, junior Sean Wesolek flushed one home with a two-hand slam to make it a two-point lead.
After a defensive stop, the Bobcats pounced on two offensive rebounds, with sophomore Demetrious Ward floating one in to make it 50-46 in a 40-second span.
The closest the Alma Panthers got from there was 57-54, a Cade Sutherland three-pointer with 36.6 seconds. The dagger was delivered from Trevor Hartman, who converted a contested lay-up and increased the lead to five. A missed three from Alma's Sam Gedde clinched the win for the Bobcats.
Six different Cats' scored on the night, with Wesolek leading the clutter with 20. The 6-foot-6 junior scored 16 points in the paint, along with a three-pointer.
For the Panthers senior center Jacoby Dunlap posted 15 points, and senior guard Cade Sutherland scored 12, knocking down four threes.
