Midland, MI - The 54th City Championship game belonged to the Dow Chargers. Dow (5-4) defeated Midland (5-4) 29-9 on an overcast Friday night at Midland Community Stadium, the High School Football Game of the Week presented by the Forward Corporation.
The last six matchups have seen three wins from both schools. Dow has won two of the last three years. Both teams based on points are expected to make the playoffs this season, both finishing within the top 32 teams in division two.
The Chargers scored on five of their seven offensive drives, with three different players earning a touchdown.
Senior Tyler Streeter had a four-yard rushing touchdown, an interception, and a fumble recovery. Streeter’s score completed an opening drive that went 10 plays and took six minutes and two seconds.
Dow quarterback Jacob Jensen ran it in, twice. A one-yard score after Midland fumbled inside their five that made it 15-0 in the second quarter. Jensen’s second rushing touchdown made it 22-0.
Each side had a touchdown in the second half. Sophomore Garlands Randolph delivered a five-yard score on the ground making it 29-2.
Midland’s final offensive drive was their lone offensive tally. A Junior to-Junior connection, Eli Kell found Liam Heinz in the right back corner of the end zone with 1:38 remaining in the game.
The all-time matchup is now Midland 42 wins to Dow’s 17.
